SPLAT’S STORY
Introducing Splat, a little blob of paint that is finding his way! Born out of a painter’s “AHA!” moment, Splat encourages his friends to try new things, trust themselves, and create what’s in their hearts. He’s still learning how to paint his own world and wants to learn about every color of the rainbow.
Loves:

• Favorite food: Rainbow Roll Sushi
• Favorite music: Techno & Classical
• Dreams of: Seeing the Painted Desert in Arizona, USA
There once was a painter who could not make up her mind. She had a beautiful vision of art in her head but could not find a way to create it on the canvas. She tried painting her idea through impressionism, cubism, surrealism, and even paint-by-numbers. None of it worked! She felt stumped.
Then, she realized she couldn’t create her idea perfectly with just one technique–because she needed to think outside the box!
She dipped her paintbrush into purple paint and cast her arm across the canvas, moving her paintbrush like a wand. Paint splattered in every direction, and she knew she was on her way.
She did not realize, however, that one drop of paint flew behind the canvas onto the wall. When it hit the surface, it made a “SPLAT!” sound. This wasn’t just any drop of paint; this one came alive!
The drop of paint woke up as soon as it hit the cement, his eyes blinking wide open.
He looked around at its new world.
“Woah, where am I?” Splat asked. He felt his mind grow as soon as he started talking. He gasped, “Oh! What am I?” He saw his purple paint legs stretch around him. His shiny purple surface matched the paintbrush from across the room. “Oh! I’m a paint splat! Hmm…”
He peered around the easel and canvas to see the artist’s arms dancing behind it. “I wonder what she’s doing? She looks like she is having so much fun!”
He trusted his legs to take him carefully down the wall and across the room. He looked around at other paintings on the walls and marveled at the colors and shapes. “Hello?” He said to the paintings. “Can you all talk and see and move too?” He didn’t hear a response, but he did feel each one was telling him something unique. He decided to walk behind the artist.
She was creating swirls of purple paint, speaking her unique message through the movement of the brush. Splat was in awe.
Her box of tools sat next to her, and she reached for the green paint. Just before she splattered green paint across the canvas, Splat squeaked, “WAIT!” The artist was startled! Looking around, she thought she heard a noise…
“Yes! Me! Down here! Before you paint that canvas green, shouldn’t I be up there?”
“Woah!” The artist couldn’t believe her eyes. Had her paint come to life? Was she dreaming? Maybe she forgot to eat lunch. “Are you…”
“Real?” responded Splat, “I don’t know, I just woke up! But I’m a paint splat, and I’m thinking I’m supposed to be a part of that painting…”
“Hmm…” said the artist. “I actually think I’m done with the purple background, and besides, you’re way too unique to be blended into the other purples! And if you just woke up… what if it makes you go back to sleep?”
“Well I guess I don’t want that either; I’m having too much fun being here! And I love the painting just as it is.”
“Thank you,” the artist beamed, “I’m having a terrific time! I do love the painting I’ve made, but I think you’re my best creation yet!”
They smiled at each other, both in awe of the situation.
“Well,” Splat thought, “if I’m not meant to be on that canvas, then where should I be?”
The artist let Splat walk onto her hand, and she looked right into his eyes.
“Splat, you were born out of my ‘Aha’ moment,” pondered the artist, “and I think you awoke to help artists find their aha moments, too! Maybe your paint belongs to many artists, and they can create with you as their friend!”
“Oh I like that idea!” exclaimed Splat. “Imagine all the artists I’ll get to meet! But, I don’t yet know much ABOUT art…”
“That’s okay!” said the artist. “I learn art from MoxieBox, and I bet other artists would love to learn with you by their side.”
Splat glowed with excitement. “This is the best news I’ve heard all day!”
The artist laughed, “Splat, you’ve only been awake for five minutes!”
Splat’s eyes sparkled as he exclaimed, “That means this is the beginning of everything! I’ll need some help, but let’s go paint the world!”
